Tyrosine prefers to be substituted with other amino acids of the same type since it is an aromatic, somewhat hydrophobic amino acid. It especially favours exchanging with phenylalanine, which is identical to it only because�it does not have a hydroxyl group on the benzene ring in the ortho position.
